30 Day Book Challenge Day 4

I know this is late but I had quite a bit of homework last night so lets get going-
So question 4 is basically talk about a movie that messed up a book. I think the most obvious choices are Eragon and the Percy Jackson movies (which the author, Rick Riordan refuses to watch because of how terrible they are.) I'm going to highlight the main problems with the PJO movie(s)
Movie 1- The Lightning Thief-
The movie starts off very eh and not bookish, with Poseidon rising from the water and then yelling/arguing with Zeus. The main problem with the beginning after that is that they A' are in high school when he should be 12 B. are talking about Shakespear and again, he is supposed to be 12. C. Little details such as how Ms.Dodds was teaching english instead of math.
The main problem overall is the fact that the actors are in their 20's and their supposed to be 12. A minimum 8 year age gap is ridiculous. This is important in the series because we are supposed to see Percy grow and mature while fighting a war, not fully developed and prancing around trying to find some stupid pearls.
Another point- the book plot-line is that he needs to go to Hades to convince him that he doesn't have the lightning bolt and the pearls are a minor factor in the books. In the movie however, the main plot is to try to find these pearls as they go to get his mom back. In the book, they got the pearls after they basically blew up the St. Louis Arc ( which i was looking forward to seeing that but no, they cut it out) and he falls into the river, where a nyiad ( I believe that is what they were called) gave them to Percy.
No where in the book did they go to Nashville. They also cut out the mattress store, which i thought was a good scene. Can we also talk about how it was the end of June, which is in summer when Persephone is supposed to be with her mom? Come on guys, this is basic mythology. They also cut out the battle with Ares in the end, which is pretty dang important especially when Ares cursed Percy's sword.
The problem with the ending was that all the gods were there, not just Poseidon and Zeus.
I think you've heard enough about that, lets move on to the next problem-

Movie 2- The Sea of Monsters
The first movie already showed us that it wouldn't be a good series adaptation, but they tried harder in this movie, while also digging their own graves. The first movie was bad enough and by trying to pick up the pieces, they messed it up even more. ( though i will admit, I like Anthony Stewart Head more than the original Chiron (buffy fans in the house) he was a perfect Chiron).
Also, we got the great prophecy, not only three books/movies early, but it was wrong, starting with the age. In the book it is 16 but in the movie it was 20. Also they basically messed up even more basic mythology. They said that somehow Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon escaped from Kronos and then killed him, when in the real myth, only Zeus wasn't eaten because his mother, Rhea gave Kronos a rock to eat instead of his youngest son. Later on when Zeus was older, he made Kronos throw up his siblings, Hera, Poseidon, Hestia, Demeter and Hades ( and yes, Hades did marry his sisters daugther, but that family is pretty dysfunctional.) They fought him and won, sending him to Tartarus.
Now that Greek Mythology 101 by Abby is done, lets get back to the movie. The plot was messed up in more ways than I can count and the order of events from the series is extremely messed up. Anyway, I'm pretty tired and so I will wrap this up here. If you want me to make a separate post on just The Sea of Monsters, then I will.
Until next time, goodbye!

30 Day Book Challenge day 3

I know i have mentioned the Harry Potter books in the last few posts a little more than is probably necessary  but they are classic fiction books. This question concerned the longest book i have ever read, and in actuality the longest would technically be the book i have containing all the Chronicles of Narnia, but i wont count that one.
I love Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and while it isn't my favorite book, it is the longest, coming in at 870 pages (according to an online count).  I find it to be very dark and a little drawn out, honestly probably the most boring book in the series. The book is not J.K. Rowling's finest work by any means, but it is not as bad as some books (*cough cough* beautiful creatures*cough cough*)
I don't think it is necessary to explain it, considering this is a book blog and most of you have probably already read the book, but i thought my quick thoughts would make up this post.
I have a list of books I am currently reading at the bottom of my main page. I will be reviewing them as i finish, just thought I'd address this really quickly!
What is the longest book you have read? Comment down below/
Bye for now,
Abby

30 Day Book Challenge Day 2

Day 2- favorite side character

The Harry Potter series is one of my absolute favorites through and through. One of my favorite characters is one that often gets over looked, Ginny Weasley. She was absolutely ruined by the movie but is a very strong character in the book. She was always very strong and helpful, unlike her movie version that seemed like a stupid kid sister to Ron, not adding much to the series. Some people wont even know who she is right off the bat, considering her most significant point in the films is when she was portrayed as a damsel in distress in the Chamber of Secrets.
In the book she had alot of depth that many characters lose in the shift from page to screen. She truly was a very helpful person when it came to Harry. In the Half Blood Prince, she and Harry develop a relationship that is a key point in Deathly Hallows. But among this is the fact that even in her relationships she was always very strong and independent. Overall, a great character.

Life update

Hello my blogging friends, I am back! I just wanted to explain where I have been and what I'm going to do overall. I started my sophomore year last week and this can be stressful. I am taking an ap class as well as having an editor position at my school paper and some pre-ap classes. Overall I have lots of work and projects this year ( such as the 5 essay project i have due Friday.......) Anyway, I have had to delay the continuation of the 30 day book challenge but I am going to attempt to continue it either tonight or tomorrow. I am sorry for the delay, just got swamped with papers. Well, thank you! I will see you in my next post.

30 Day Book Challenge: Day 1

Hello! I am waiting for the new episode of Doctor Who to (re) air because I missed it at 7 so I figured I would go ahead and start the first day of the challenge!
Day 1 Question- A book series you wish had gone on longer OR a book series you wish would just end already
I could go with the cliche answer and say Harry Potter or Percy Jackson (2 of my absolute favorite series of all time.) but I thought I'd go with something else. One of my other favorite series is the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini.
I fell in love with this series after I accidentally picked up the Eragon audio book at my local library (thinking back i don't remember what I actually wanted). I like to say its fate that i found them. All four books, Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr and Inheritance are spectacular. Though the first book, Eragon, did have slower moments of more character development, so it wasn't pages wasted, rather things that don't automatically draw you in. It is one of those books you have to put up with for the first 50 pages before you get to the "good stuff".
I haven't read the books in quite some time but i do remember when the last book, Inheritance, came out I was on a road trip to Missouri. I went through the whole book fairly quickly because i was dying to know what happened. I love the book of course but I feel like there were so many plot lines and sub plots that Paolini could have branched off of, such as the continuation of the final dragon egg plot line. Overall, I wish that there had been more story because I loved the writing and feel that Paolini did a fantastic job with the plot line.

Note: This is not a review, simply an answer to the question.
Unfortunately i do not have a review of any of the books
